Listen free to Deodato – Whirlwinds (Moonlight Serenade, Ave Maria and more). Having signed a presumably lucrative deal with MCA, Deodato took with him the jazz- ste-of-the-classics formula that he perfected with CTI. This album generally follows the same half covers/half originals formula of Deodato's two CTI recordings, the main difference being that the usual CTI musicians do not appear on this album so the approch of the music is somewhat different. The best way to describe this is relaxing grooves;generally speaking this album is jazz-funk based but as usual Deodato chooses cover material very atypical for the genre;"Moonlight Serenade" gets the same treatment as the theme from 2001 that made Deodato a big name to start with  . After almost 2o years I am glad to have Whirlwinds back in my music collection. But, the arrangements here are awesome, the musician's superb & tha backing w/live album Aristry just makes this too good a deal to pass up.

As a result, this record sounds like a washed-out, black-and-white facsimile of a Deodato CTI record, with one classical adaptation (Schubert's "Ave Maria"), a fairly good reworking of Glenn Miller's "Moonlight Serenade," and.
