Spleen and Ideal is the second studio album by Australian musical act Dead Can Dance. It was released on 25 November 1985 by record label 4AD. The album features a transition between the band's post-punk and gothic rock-influenced debut album towards a neoclassical dark wave style.

A rather ethereal form of gothic music, similar to the origins of its debut album, Dead Can Dance, and followed a more world music- and d content, with lyrics based on the writings of Charles Baudelaire and Thomas de Quincey. It is considered the group's best album from a lyrical standpoint.

The band's debut album featured a ritual mask from Papua New Guinea, to mirror the reasoning behind the band's name, which was written on the cover in the Greek characters ΔΞΛΔ CΛΝ ΔΛΝCΞ.
