Hypnotic Underworld is an album by the band Ghost, released on January 27, 2004 on Drag City. The album is the first album to feature cellist/bassist Takuyuki Moriya and percussionist Junzo Tatewia, who replaced Hiromichi Sakamoto and Setsuko Furuya respectively. The album has two cover songs: one of Earth and Fire's "Hazy Paradise" and one of Syd Barrett's "Dominoes". All tracks written by Ghost, unless otherwise noted.

A1. Part 1: God Took A Picture Of His Illness On This Ground. Ghost (2). Hypnotic Underworld ‎(CD, Album).

Since Ghost's inception in Tokyo in 1986, the band has released consistently solid, ambitious records; but on their seventh full-length, the sextet transcends all of their prior rock outings (though the beautiful psych-folk Snuffbox Immanence still stands as the best of their quieter material)

Psychedelic Rock Ghost. Album Name Hypnotic Underworld.

Five years after releasing both Snuffbox Immanence and Tune In, Turn On, Free Tibet, Ghost returned with Hypnotic Underworld, and there were some changes in the band. Cellist Hiromichi Sakamoto and percussionist Setsuko Furuya (whose marimba gave those albums such a distinct sound) are gone, replaced by a great young rhythm section of Takuyuki Moriya (bass, conta bass, cello) and Junzo Tateiwa (drums, tabla, percussion). Also, Ghost co-founder Taishi Takizawa continues as producer but rejoins the group as a musician as well (he has served only as producer since the mid-'90s)

For a limited time only. Japanese psychedelic champions GHOST return with a heavily anticipated new album, already being called the band's best yet. Nine tracks of deeply cosmic psych and folk sounds, delivered heavier and more mountainous than ever. Includes the title-track improvisational epic in four parts, along with covers of '70s Dutch group Earth & Fire and Syd Barrett arranged in Ghost's unique, strange manner. Hypnotic Underworld: God Took A Picture Of His Illness On This Ground.

And Hypnotic Underworld is their rollicking masterwork. 80. Ghost sounds so together that even its nods to jazz fusion and prog rock sound utterly convincing. 76. Ghost remains one of the more chaotic and interesting outfits working today, and Hypnotic Underworld proves another worthy addition to the group's idiosyncratic catalog.
